New Publication by the Polarz Research Group in “Microporous and Mesoporous Materials”

The Institute of Inorganic Chemistry is pleased to announce a new publication by the Polarz research group. In an article titled “Large-pore-sized cyclodextrin-modified organosilica colloids for temperature-controlled drug release,” the team presents innovative research approaches in the field of nanomaterials.

In this work, the Polarz Research Group introduces cyclodextrin-modified mesoporous organosilica particles that feature adjustable and enlarged pore sizes. These enable the efficient attachment of supramolecular host units via photoinitiated click chemistry. What makes this method unique is the ability to achieve tailored host-guest interactions with drug molecules without requiring chemical modification of the drugs themselves. This not only allows for high loading of the colloids but also for precise, temperature-controlled release, as successfully demonstrated in the study using the antibacterial agent thymol as an example.
